LOCAL PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUPS WANT SPECIALIST NURSE IN THE NENW

With over 300 Parkinson’s suffers in Tamworth local support groups are calling on health services to bring a neurological nurse educator to the region, in a bid to alleviate the pressure on specialists.

“They can help with understanding some of the side affects of Parkinson’s, educating health workers about the various aspects of Parkinson’s and they’re many and varied.”

Parkinson’s NSW CEO, Miriam Dixon was in Tamworth to explore the idea – she says funding will be a major hurdle.

“Nurses really provide a valuable resource and we’ve done a pilot program in Shoalhaven with a neurological nurse educator andwe’ve shown that that increases the quality of quality of life for people livign with Parkinson’s, but particularly also the carer.”
