FIREARM AND DRUGS ALLEGEDLY UNCOVERED DURING VEHICLE STOP

A 30-year-old male has been charged with firearm and drug possession offences after being stopped by police in East Maitland overnight.

Around 11.40pm, officers were patrolling Burke Street, when they noticed a vehicle doing a U-Turn at the end of the street.

Officers pulled the vehicle over and spoke with the driver and his female passenger.

A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly located a firearm, three mobile phones and drug paraphernalia.

Police then searched the driver and allegedly found an amount of prohibited drugs.

He was arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station.

He was refused bail and will face Maitland Local Court today.
