CESSNOCK MAN CHARGED OVER CHILD GROOMING

A 37-year-old man has been charged over the alleged online grooming of a child.

Detectives began engaging online with the Cessnock man in November 2017, where it’s alleged the man believed he was speaking to a 14-year-old boy and engaged in sexually-explicit conversations, sent indecent images and made arrangements to meet in person.

The man was arrested on Friday and charged with multiple offences, including using a carriage service to groom a person under the age of 16 for sexual activity.

He was refused bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court today.
