44-YEAR-OLD CHARGED OVER NEW LAMBTON HIT-AND-RUN

A man has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, following an alleged hit-and-run incident in a Newcastle suburb.

A 54-year-old male pedestrian died after he was hit by a Holden Statesman on Railway Road in New Lambton, shortly before 3am on New Years Day.

Police allege the driver failed to stop and left the scene.

A 44-year-old man was arrested about 8am yesterday, and has now been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, and failing to stop and render assistance after impact causing death, among other charges.

He will appear at Newcastle Local Court later this month.
