WARATAH TOWNHOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE

A two storey townhouse has been gutted by fire in Newcastle this afternoon.

Seven fire and rescue crews and police responded, finding the Waratah home fully involved.

No one was inside the townhouse at the time.

All of the residents of the block of units escaped the fierce blaze.

“Fire and rescue carried out search practices and we ascertained there was no one in the unit.”

“It went so quickly, the fire consumed everything, it was unbelievable.”

Neighbouring units suffered smoke damage, some residents taking matters into their own hands before fire crews arrived.

“There was a guy next door who was trying to rescue what he could, he got his computer but he risked his life to go in there.”
