NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR NEW ENGLAND DUO
Armidale rugby union product Greg Cornelsen is one of the newest inductees to the Wallabies Hall of Fame.
He pulled on the gold jersey 25 times, but is best known for scoring four tries in a 1978 Test against the All Blacks.
It’s still a record for an Australian forward in a single international match.
“I am proud of it, and thanks very much for not showing them tonight because if you do see them, you’d say what’s all that about.”
Also honoured at the Australian Rugby Union awards last night, Glen Innes’ Alana Thomas.
Now based in Victoria, she steered the Melbourne Unicorns women’s side to a premiership this season, to claim the Community Coach of the Year gong.
“We had about five girls who hadn’t played rugby before. So, to see that was great and just to win the championship was fantastic. Again, with a great club and a great group of girls.”
