A routine police stop, near Newcastle, has led to a grim discovery.
About 3.15am today, police pulled over a car on Griffiths Road.
During the vehicle stop, police located the body of a 52-year-old man in the backseat of the car.
The 52-year-old male driver was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station.
The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious.
