While State of Origin kicks off today, another competition between the two states began yesterday.
But this battle, supported by the Knights, will help save lives.
Launched at the Newcastle Blood Bank, the Donate for your State challenge will tackle a drop in donations.
Jemma Falkenmire from the Red Cross Blood Service says “We are actually tallying donations in New South Wales and Queensland during origin and we’d really like people to make it their goal to come in and give blood during origin.”
No-one knows the importance of donor blood more than Will Campbell.
His son David was saved by donations following a Hunter motorcycle accident last year.
