9-YEAR-OLD GIRL ESCAPES ALLEGED ATTEMPTED ABDUCTION

A girl has managed to escape from a man that allegedly grabbed her by the arm and attempted to pull her into a car at Port Stephens.

Police say two girls, aged 9 and 10, were walking their dog along Monterra Avenue in Hawks Nest, just before 6pm on Thursday when the incident occurred.

As the girls approached the intersection of Carmarra Crescent, a white Jeep SUV did a u-turn and stopped in front of them.

A man approached them and grabbed the 9-year-old by the arm, but she managed to break free and the pair ran from the scene.

Police would now like to speak to a man who may be able to assist in their enquiries.

He is described as being aged in his 40s, balding with grey hair, and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt.
