At least ten dead after Hunter Valley wedding bus crash

A devastating bus crash that killed 10 people and put 11 others in hospital overnight has left a community reeling today.

Just after 11.30pm, emergency services were called to the roundabout on Wine Country Drive near the Hunter Expressway off-ramp at Greta, after reports a coach had rolled.

The bus overturned approaching the third exit of the roundabout, the passenger side falling onto the guardrail.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the bus crash overnight that has claimed the lives of some of our guests,” the owners said in a statement.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the victims and we are supporting them in any way we can.

“At this time, we are providing support to those guests who need our help and we wish to maintain their privacy and won’t be making any further statements at this time.”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a statement to cameras this morning that the government would offer whatever support was necessary to the families involved.

“For a joyous day like that, in a beautiful place, to end with such terrible loss of life and injury is so cruel, and so sad, and so unfair,” he said.

NSW Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Tracy Chapman confirmed 10 people had been killed.

As of 10am, a further 21 passengers from the bus were confirmed to still be in hospital by the office of NSW Premier Chris Minns.

Drivers in the area are advised the site of the crash is likely to be closed off for some time, with blocks and diversions in place.

The crash is likely to rank alongside Australia’s worst road disasters.

The deadliest on record is a collision near Kempsey on the NSW Mid North Coast, when two buses collided head-on while travelling on the Pacific Highway, killing 35.
