Hunter Water was forced to provide emergency supplies to the Newcastle suburbs of Fletcher, Minmi and Maryland today, after an excavator damaged the area’s water main.
Bottled water and a tanker were on hand to help meet residents’ immediate needs, while repair crews went about locating and fixing the break.
The task was made more difficult by the damaged cast-iron main being situated in soggy ground off Minmi Road, in the Ironbark Creek floodway.
Water supply should be back on tonight.
