Inverell Shire Council has voted in favour of applying for a special variation rate from IPART.
Yesterday, councillors moved forward with a proposed 14.25 per cent rate increase over three years.
The rate rise would generate more than $16-million, to be spent improving the shire’s roads.
Council has until Monday to lodge an application.
