POLICE SUCCESSFULLY DEPLOY ROAD SPIKES IN PORT MACQUARIE PURSUIT

A police pursuit has ended with two men being arrested on the mid-north coast yesterday.

Shortly before 10 o’clock on Saturday night, police attempted to pull over a black Holden Astra on Dahlsfords Drive, Port Macquarie, after receiving information the occupants were wanted on outstanding warrants.

The vehicle allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

Police sucessfully deployed road spikes on Ocean Drive, about 500m north of Lake Cathie, but the vehicle continued driving on its rims and only came to rest in bushland in after it became stuck between trees.

The occupants fled on foot, but were apprehended a short time later.

Police further alledge that one of the men, a 21-year-old, assaulted a male senior constable during the arrest. The officer did not require hospital treatment.

Among other charges, the passenger was charged with a revocation of parole warrant, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest.

Background checks reveal the driver, also aged 21, was disqualified from driving until January 2018. He was charged with eight outstanding warrants, Skyes Law, and driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period.
