MAN ASSAULTED IN BROAD DAYLIGHT DURING CENTRAL COAST CARJACKING

A man has been assaulted in broad daylight, and two pedestrians have closely escaped injury, during a carjacking on the Central Coast yesterday morning.

Around 10:30am, a 30-year-old man was returning to his car in a Lake Haven carpark when he was allegedly confronted by an 18-year-old man.

The young man allegedly punched the older man in the face and knocked him to the ground, before stealing his keys and jumping in his car.

Two people were then forced to leap out of the way when the 18-year-old reversed the vehicle as he drove from the scene.

The 30-year-old victim was taken to Wyong Hospital in a stable condition.

The carjacker – an unlicensed driver from Minto – was arrested at Campbelltown Police Station later that night.

He was charged with aggravated take/drive motor vehicle with person in/on it – inflict actual bodily harm, and drive while unlicensed.

He was refused bail to appear in Campbelltown Local Court today.
