Newcastle motorists were today taking advantage of a free service designed to safeguard their cars against number plate theft.
Volunteers and police drilled in new tamper-proof screws, to prevent what Crime Prevention Officer Jeff Milton says is a growing crime.
“Hopefully we should reduce the amount of number plates stolen because we are the only ones with the tools to take them off.”
They’re looking to fit close to 4,000 cars, and will be at Westfield Kotara again tomorrow.
