FEEDBACK SOUGHT ON FINAL SECTION OF NEWCASTLE INNER CITY BYPASS

The community is invited to have its say on the fifth and final section of the Newcastle Inner City Bypass.

The state government has committed $280-million for the 3.4-kilometre stretch between Rankin Park and Jesmond.

It’s designed to provide traffic relief to the existing roads including Lookout Road, Croudace Street and Newcastle Road.

A refined strategic design has been developed, which Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald says will improve traffic flow and minimise potential environmental impacts.

“Key project improvements include moving the bypass to minimise impacts on the environment and nearby residential areas, replacing the roundabout on Newcastle Road at Jesmond with traffic lights and increasing the traffic capacity at the northern and southern interchanges for improved traffic flow.

“A half interchange would provide access to and from the north to the western side of the John Hunter Hospital. A bridge across the bypass would separate traffic accessing the hospital and also provide pedestrian access across the bypass to the hospital,” he said.

Community feedback is welcome until June 9.
