KEMPSEY PRISON MANAGER STOOD DOWN FOLLOWING ALLEGED ATTACK
The general manager of Kempsey prison has been stood down following an alleged attack on a former Australian soldier in a cell.
The 40-year-old victim is said to be in a serious condition, after he was allegedly beaten by an 18-year-old ISIL supporter, who’s also accused of carving “e4e” into the man’s head – a reference to ISIL’s “eye for an eye” mantra.
The attack is said to have occured after a lockdown on Thursday afternoon.
The teen is also accused of placing a towel over the older man’s face, and pouring boiling water onto him.
He’s been charged with causing grievous bodily harm. The former soldier has been treated for serious injuries to his head and sternum, and burns to his face.
NSW Corrective Services Commissioner Peter Severin says the prison’s general manager had been suspended, pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident.
