SEARCH FOR MISSING PLANE, CALLED OFF.

Rescuers have called off the search for a light plane missing off the far north coast.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority says based on medical advice and the ocean conditions and temperature, the pilot could not have survived beyond midday.

The pilot of the Cessna took-off from Lismore Airport around 4.30 yesterday afternoon and was last detected on radar about six miles north east of Byron Bay.

Several aircraft and boats have been scouring the area since last night ,however the AMSA indicated a short time ago the search was concluded at 1pm.

It’s understood the pilot hired the aircraft in Lismore.
