NEWCASTLE MAN KILLED IN MOUNTAINEERING ACCIDENT

A Newcastle man has fallen to his death while climbing in the Himalayas.
Michael Davis was descending Ama Dablam near Mount Everest in Eastern Nepal on Thursday, when a rock fall cut his safety rope.
The 33-year-old’s body was retrieved by air and taken to Kathmandu for a post-mortem.

He was a part of a group of 15 people climbing the 6812m Himalayan peak.
Mr Davis’ family is understood to be travelling to Nepal today, to accompany his body home.
A keen climber, Michael was a graduate of the University of Newcastle, where he was a member of the campus mountaineering club.
