A stolen vehicle reached speeds of an estimated 180kph in a cross border pursuit overnight.
Just before 11pm, Queensland police informed their NSW colleagues that a stolen vehicle they were monitoring was approaching the border.
Police set up to stop the Holden Captiva, but it was estimated to be travelling at 180km/h in a100km/h zone, and due to safety concerns the pursuit was not continued.
Police continued to monitor the vehicle, and near Byron Bay a tyre deflation device was deployed, puncturing the Holden’s front offside tyre.
The vehicle eventually stopped on Tamarind Drive at Ballina, where the three occupants allegedly left the vehicle and hid in bushland.
Following a search, a 15-year-old male and two females aged 16 and 18 were arrested.
The male was charged with a number of offences, including driving in a dangerous manner, and driving without a license. Both females were charged with being carried in a conveyance.
