NEW SYSTEM SAVING PRECIOUS WATER AT MEREWETHER GOLF COURSE

One of the region’s biggest water consumers is proving a little technology can go a long way.
Thanks to a smart new irrigation system, Merewether Golf Club can now control exactly how much water is needed to maintain the 38 hectare course – and when.
It’s saving 21-million litres of the precious resource each year, and up to $60,000.
“We’ve probably had 7 weeks with very little rain and previously we would’ve been buying water but we’re actually still running dam water” said Merewether Golf Club General Manager David Grime.
Hunter Water, who contributed to the cost of the new system, hopes other clubs will follow suit.
