FOUR CHARGED AFTER COAL PROTEST

Four Canberra university students are facing two charges each after staging a coal train protest at Willow Tree last night.

They’ve been accused of obstructing a railway and trespassing, after they took action against Whitehaven, claiming the company has destroyed nearly 40 sacred Gomeroi sites surrounding its Maules Creek operation.

The students began their act of defiance at 6pm, and were removed four and a half hours later.

They’ve been released on conditional bail, and will face Scone Local Court on March 24.
