CLARENCE VALLEY SAND PLAN FOR WOOLI SCRAPPED

Clarence Valley Council has been told it can’t remove sand from national parks to replenish beaches in the area.

Council had sought permission to move sand from Yuraygir National Park to Wooli Beach which has an ongoing erosion problem but the state government has rejected the proposal.

Council will now amend its draft coastal management plan and take sand from below the high tide mark at the northern end of Wooli Beach.

A state government spokesperson says taking sand from a national park is prohibited under current legislation.
