WEATHER UPDATE: COLDEST OVERNIGHT TEMPS IN A DECADE

Taken by Ailsa Schilling

The Hunter Valley has had the coldest overnight minimums in at least a decade. There have been numerous sub zero temperatures, frosts and fogs and it’s been a very similar story up and down the ranges and across the tablelands. That trend is set to continue.

It is incredibly clear across the nation at the moment. There is a dominating, blocking high that is stopping any frontal activity from coming in. For the entire eastern seaboard that means the showers will be quite consistent so it’s not going to be pretty.

When you get a big high sitting there continually just pumping in the moisture, we often get these inland features starting to form. We get an inland trough and that moisture will be driven in and then we will see an inland rain event, and that is going to occur at the end of the week.

It will continue to be very very cold at night, frosts could be severe and we’ll see some fog patches. It’ll be partly cloudy with showers along the coast.

  1. I am writing to congratulate Gavin on his weather reports to the NBN viewers He is so acurate and understands the systems far better than any other reporter,He always gives the Gold Coast temps and forcasts 100% correct unlike Brisbane channels who compared to the weather bureau are always 3 to 4 deg out . ie they will forcast for the G.C. min of 12 deg but in reality it was 16 deg might have been 12 in Coolangatta but at the GC seaway it was 16 deg.We don’t all live in Cool… Day temps will be forcast as 21 deg and yet our day temp was 23.4 . But all Brisbane stations will report 21 deg Only Gavin gets it right , I applaud him for his accuracy. Well done NBN..
