The Senate inquiry into the Williamtown RAAF base contamination will begin this week.

The first hearing will take place in Canberra on Thursday, with a second date set down for December 22 at Williamtown.

Meanwhile, the Federal Member for Paterson raised the issue in parliament again today – asking for more details.

“What actions has the government taken so far and what plans are in place to restore the lifestyle and livelihood of my constituents?,” he said.

Julie Bishop says Defence is taking the matter very seriously, undertaking rigorous testing and providing financial assistance.

“Through world-wide and Australian research it transpires that there are few effective or viable large scale remediation techniques – other than incineration of contaminated soil have been idenitifed, so incineration is an option,” she said.
