A man has died after a shocking assault in Coffs Harbour on the weekend.
Police have formed a strike force to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, which occurred late Saturday night.
Police say the 27-year-old man left a licensed premise and became involved in an altercation with an unidentified person, in which he was punched, and fell onto the roadway, hitting his head.
He was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital, then flown to John Hunter Hospital with critical head injuries.
At midday yesterday the man’s life support was turned off and he passed away.
