END OF AN ERA FOR MATTARA HILLCLIMB

Whether it was sitting on the hill as a spectator, or strapped-in behind the wheel of a race car, there was a touch of nostalgia for many today as a Newcastle tradition drew to a close.
Up through The Pinch, the chicanes and around the Bogey Hole – after racing the clock to the top of the hill for 58 years, time has finally caught up with King Edward Park’s Mattara Hillclimb.
City planning changes mean the event can no longer be held in the park.
For people like the MG Car Club’s Peter Robinson and his daughter Elizabeth, it’s the end of an era.
