MASSIVE BOOST FOR SURFEST WOMEN

The Surfest women’s pro will return to being a QS 6000 rated event next year, thanks to a successful crowd-funding campaign.

The event’s status was reduced to a QS 1000 rating earlier this year after the withdrawal of its major sponsor.

“It means that we’ll see some of the world’s best women’s surfers coming to Newcastle, it’s a fantastic effort from the Newcastle business community to put this together.”

73 businesses around the Hunter chipped in the required money to ensure the competition returns to its former glory.

One will be selected at random as the official naming rights sponsor.

“There’s been a lot of community pride put into this event with the businesses, we’ll be having a breakfast on October 9 where the naming rights sponsor will be selected.”
