FEDS URGED TO BE ‘FLEXIBLE’ WITH DUNGOWAN DAM FUNDS

The state government is urging its federal counterparts to be ‘flexible’ when it comes to funding the upgrade of Dungowan Dam.

The federal government has already committed $75-million to the project, on the provision it would be matched by the state.

But a recent feasibility study shows the project would cost around $480-million.

“We’re happy to match federal funding, but we’ve also got to ensure we get the best outcome. And I am hearing there are other options on the table. It might be some more works at Chaffey Dam, it could be Dungowan. But let’s make sure we spend that money wisely.”

Mr Barilaro says he wants to work with the federal government to ensure all options are looked at.

“If you can get the same outcome in relation to the amount of water, by doing more work at Chaffey for you know what could possibly be a third of the price or half the price. Why wouldn’t you?”
