FIGHT TO SAVE FINANCIAL SERVICE

It’s where people go when they have nothing left.

But they could be about to lose that lifeline too.

The Financial Counselling Hunter Valley Project’s future is currently under review by the state government.

Maria Hatch is one of 11 people employed by the service… which covers an area from Port Stephens to Quirindi in the north west.

Each year, it helps up to a thousand people, and struggles to keep pace with demand.

Wallsend Labor MP, Sonia Hornery, has stepped in to help fight the possible closure, today launching a petition.

The Department of Finance says the government is committed to ensuring the best use of funding for the public… and to do so, it’s undertaking additional assessments.
