PUSH CONTINUES FOR AIR MONITORING SYSTEM IN GUNNEDAH

The push for an air monitoring system in the Gunnedah basin is continuing with the Namoi Joint Organisation seeking a meeting with the state’s energy minister Anthony Roberts.

The group is seeking three 2.5 particulate stations placed in Gunnedah, Narrabri and Mullaley to conduct an extensive, comparative study of the whole region.

Gunnedah Mayor Owen Hasler says lack of funding from the state government is all that’s stopping the project from going ahead.

“The EPA have the plan, they say that they’re willing to put it in but the government needs to fund it some way and we believe that the money is there already.”

Mr Hasler believes the project could be funded with royalties paid by mining companies.
