Around 1,000 workers have rallied in Newcastle, calling on state candidates to show their support for local manufacturing jobs.
Since Christmas, the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union claims almost 270 Hunter workers in the rolling stock industry have lost their jobs.
Another 200 workers lost their jobs at Forgacs this month.
The AMWU is asking local candidates to sign a pledge, promising to support workers ahead of this weekend’s state election.
