THREE TEENS BURNED IN HOME FIRE

Three teens have sustained burns to their legs following an explosion in Ballina.

It’s believed one of the boys was cooking inside the Norlyn Avenue home yesterday afternoon, when oil caught alight.

The 18 year-old tried to extinguish the fire with water, which caused the oil to explode.

He and two others aged 14 and 15 were treated for minor burns.

Police are reminding the community how to properly extinguish an oil fire.

“Oil and water don’t mix it’s a first reaction to put water on anything that’s burning but in the case of oil it’s to cover it up to extinguish the fire or use a fire extinguisher.”
