There are calls for the Royal Commission into sex abuse to investigate the link between suicide, and abuse inflicted by priests in the Hunter.
An independent group has been formed, to compile a list of possible victims, who’ve since taken their own lives.
“Hopefully the commission will pick that up and decide to do something with it, and perhaps conduct a case study in Newcastle, Hunter Valley”
Bishop Bill Wright of the Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Diocese has welcomed the move and says he supports “an independent, rigorous, scientific research project into these issues.”
The calls follow the Special Commission of Inquiry into the handling of clergy sex abuse allegations.
