HUNTER VALLEY COAL MINE OPERATOR FINED FOR ILLEGAL WASTE DUMPING
The Land and Environment Court has convicted and fined Integra Coal $84,000 for dumping excessive levels of waste at its mine complex at Glennies Creek in the Hunter Valley.
The company has also been ordered to pay the New South Wales Department of Infrastructure and Planning $38,000 in costs.
Integra was granted approval in 2010 to operate its open cut and underground mines with specified limits to the height of waste rock piles.
Compliance officers from the New South Wales Department of Infrastructure and Planning investigated Integra’s operation in August last year and found waste rock dump heights were at a level that significantly breached the limits in the development approval.
