Police are asking Tamworth motorists not to queue at the intersection of Peel and Brisbane Street in the CBD.
They say people continue driving through the traffic lights, despite both lanes being full on the other side, causing a bottleneck.
New signs have been placed at the intersection to try and stop the problem.
Police say those who continue to drive through will be hit with heavy fines.
