A new wheelchair-friendly fishing platform was today officially opened, at Dunbogan, to mark International Day of People with Disability.

The $100,000 wooden structure has been designed to cater for people of all ages and abilities, and has already attracted a large crowd of fishing enthusiasts.

  1. As I resident of Dunbogan have watched the progress of this platform, and found it to be well made and of solid construction, however it has a few flaws.
The platform is no bigger than a small jetty, that over hangs the rock wall, fishing is difficult as lines are fowled by rocks below and immediately front of this structure, also a danger to children jumping into the river, as they will do, the width of this platform is only just OK for wheelchairs, but not for electric scooters as they cannot turn or maneuver, most of the elderly residents here own such mobility scooters and I understood the stand was to accommodate all people with disabilities, this needs to be addressed, the local residents and fisher people submitted plans and suggestions which appear lost in translation, council please correct the width of the platform out toward the river by 2 m and we will have a great fishing spot.
