COFFS HARBOUR GATEWAY FOR HUGHES FUNERAL

Coffs Harbour became the gateway for thousands of people, arriving for Phil Hughes’ funeral.

Sombre cricketers, along with other sporting identities and dignitaries filed into the arrivals lounge this morning.

Premier Mike Baird was one of those who landed on a scheduled domestic flight.

At one stage, almost a dozen planes of all shapes and sizes were lined up on the tarmac.

“Three charter flights, 737 charters and a couple of smaller ones and obviously the regular services as well,” said Airport Manager Dennis Martin.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten arrived aboard a RAAF jet, amid tight security.

They left for Macksville in a convoy of cars with a police escort.
