NEW STATE STRATEGY WILL GIVE FLYING FOXES THE BOOT
A new state strategy announced by Environment Minister Rob Stokes today, will give Northern Rivers councils more power to deal with flying fox colonies.
The plan will see councils issued with a five year license to remove or re-settle any colonies posing a risk to human health.
Despite the animals remaining protected, the new policy allows land managers to use a number of methods to move colonies.
That includes removing vegetation and also using smoke, and water to disturb the settled bats.
