A Newcastle activist who sent a hoax email that wiped millions of dollars off Whitehaven Coal shares, has had his sentence delayed.
Jonathan Moylan sent out a fake press release in January claiming ethical concerns had led ANZ Bank to withdraw a $1.2-billion loan to the mining company for its Maules Creek mine project.
It temporarily wiped $314-million off Whitehaven’s stockmarket value.
Farmers and environmentalists held a vigil outside the NSW Supreme Court during today’s hearing.
A date is yet to be rescheduled for his sentencing.
