A couple got the jump on whale-watching season, enjoying a VERY close-encounter this morning.
Joel Hurrey and his wife were boating off Burleigh Heads, when they spotted the elusive giant.
Careful not to breach the 100 metre exclusion zone, Joel turned off the engine and crossed his fingers.
“It just swam straight for us! Straight towards the back of the boat! I was just floating around and it went straight underneath – it was really, really great!”
