A Tweed Heads Bowls Club bartender has won a state-wide award, for being ‘UGLY’.
It doesn’t sound like a prize anyone would want to win, but the recipient explains it was a cheeky competition, for a very worthy cause.
“It actually stands for Understanding, Generous, Like-able You – really got everyone’s attention – LAUGH. It’s raising money for the Leukemia Foundation and the money that we raise go towards people who are suffering from Leukemia have a night away if they don’t live near a medical centre.”
Simone Szpitalak raised more than $14,000.
