SPECIAL OLYMPICS TORCH HITS SYDNEY AS MEDALS RELEASED

The torch for the Special Olympics, escorted by team of 90 jogging police officers, today made its way over Sydney’s Harbour Bridge to the Opera House.

The games, being held in Newcastle, will host more than 2,500 competitors from 32 countries.

The opening ceremony is at Hunter Stadium on Sunday night… the Special Olympics run all next week.

And here’s what the athletes will be competing for.

As per tradition, the gold, silver and bronze medals will be presented to top-three placegetters, while ribbons will be awarded to all competitors.

Up to 2,500 athletes, coaches and carers will feature in nine sports across seven venues.
