TWO HOSPITALISED AFTER TURBULENCE REDIRECTS FLIGHT TO NEWCASTLE

Two people were treated in hospital overnight after a Qantas flight hit heavy turbulence as it came into land at Sydney and was redirected to the Williamtown Air Force base.

Five patients were treated at the scene for head and rib injuries as well as nausea and dizziness, with two taken by ambulance to both the John Hunter and Mater hospitals.

The man at the Mater hospital was discharged this morning.

A spokesperson from Newcastle Airport said several planes were directed to the airstrip overnight due to bad weather in Sydney.
