FED GOV SLASHES COMMUNITY FUNDING
It’s been revealed the federal government has slashed grants for community infrastructure, including more than $1-million intended for a Newcastle Council upgrade of the Merewether Baths pavilion.
However Newcastle Council says it has not been formally notified of the grant withdrawal.
The Regional Development Australia Fund grants, were designed to fund community facilities.
Grants had been approved by the previous government, but the Coalition has confirmed today they will retract grants, unless councils have signed contracts for the works.
Council says the funds were to be used for the replacement of the Merewether Baths pavilion, new shade, shelters, seating and to provide disabled access to the area.
NBN understands the retraction of the funds will not affect the $4-million pledged to the renewal of the Merewether Baths.
