MAN RESCUED AFTER JUMPING OFF SUNDALE BRIDGE

Gold Coast police have rescued a man after he jumped off the Sundal Bridge in Southport overnight.
The police chopper spotted him floating in the river around 11pm…alerting a nearby police boat to retrieve the man before rushing him to Gold Coast Hospital.
The extent of his injuries are unclear at this stage.
This story is a complete contradictory to the facts.
I am the guy in the “Jim Beam Racing” shirt. My better half is the one in the “St John” uniform. What I am about to tell you is the facts.
After having a fantastic day at the V8’s, and my girlfriend on duty at the “SandJam”
I started walking to our pickup point. I got to 100mtrs from waterways dr when I got the phone call from my partner that someone had jumped from the bridge. She also told me she had called “000”. Then she said ” hang on hun, a cop car just pulled a guy over in here. I hung up the phone and started to sprint to the car park.
After almost getting cleaned up by the second cop car to attend, I got there to find out the guy has been in the water for almost 20 minutes.According to some people who were there but didn’t think to call for help.
After a quick brief from my partner and a very short word with the first attending police officer, I went straight to the waters edge at water level to find any shimmering. The water was like glass, I would have seen something.
By now QAS , second police response and F&R were attending.
I suggested to first response police officer for chopper assistance.
He ordered the chopper straight away.
As you could see from your footage it was working around the eastern side of the bridge. I was looking at the sand next to the jetty and yelled out to someone to tell me the time.
I got “1130”. I then screamed out to the cop on the radio “he’s heading towards TSS” . The tide had turned and would be taking him upstream.
He told the chopper and then very quickly found him.
A young guy from a boat near the yacht club came speeding over in his inflatable tender after hearing the choppers call for somebodies assistance, “not a nearby POLICE BOAT” And the young police officer second on the scene jumped in .
They got the guy quickly back to the shore line and everyone helped to get him out.
Look I’m not looking for a thanks or anything I just think if it wasn’t for my partners training and quick thinking and my knowledge of the waters as well as 15yrs RFB/CFA,I seriously do believe that guy may not be still here with us now.
There is more to tell but maybe later.
