INVASIVE POND APPLE DETECTED ON THE TWEED
One of Australia’s most invasive weeds has been detected on the Far North Coast.
The region’s weed authority has discovered an infestation of Pond Apple on the Tweed – the first time the specie has been found growing in New South Wales.
The plant has the potential to invade mangroves, river systems and wetlands, threatening native species.
“It needs temperatures of above 25 degrees, good rainfall, so that sounds like all the ingredients our area has unfortunately. If you see it or think you have seen suspect plants please report it even if it turns out to be a false report – go to look learn act and you can report it there or call at our local council or call your local council and play your part.”
