JOINT HEALTH FACILITY GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT

Plans for a $20-million health education campus in Port Macquarie have been approved by the Joint Regional Planning Panel.

The Joint Health Education Facility will be the first of its kind in regional Australia, thanks to a partnership between the University of New South Wales, Newcastle University and North Coast TAFE.

Undergraduates will be able to complete their full six year medical degree in the town, while allied health, dental and pathology courses will also be on offer.

Construction should be completed by the end of next year, with the first intake of students in 2015.
