LEAGUE TO INVESTIGATE COFFS HARBOUR BRAWL

New South Wales Country Rugby League is investigating an ugly brawl which broke out during a Group 2 game in Coffs Harbour yesterday.

The Coffs Habour Comets were leading the Macleay Valley Mustangs when fighting among players erupted midway through the second half.

It spilled over onto the sideline and resulted in team officials and some spectators trying to intervene.

Unable to restore order, the referee made the decision to abandon the game with 20 minutes to go.

Club officials called police and calm returned as soon as they arrived.

Group 2 League President Warren Gilkinson said, “Players could be stood down, clubs could be stood down – that’s something we have to look at, country rugby league has been advised so we’ll be taking it from there.”

No one was seriously hurt and no arrests were made.
