NAIDOC week celebrations kicked off in Casino today with an official flag raising and awards ceremony at the town’s Community Centre.
Over the next week, a smorgasbord of activities will be on offer, including the painting of a mural and a family fun day.
“It’s time to recognise the significant contribution indigenous people make to modern Australia and to particularly Richmond Valley.”
Council also used today’s ceremony as an opportunity to officially acknowledge Sam Walker as its new Aboriginal Liason Officer.
